Governance & Regulation

Our Regulatory Framework

ARONAH’s regulatory framework supports safe, competent and ethical naturopathic and Western herbal medicine practice through independent registration, professional standards and public accountability. While the professions are not currently regulated under Australia’s National Registration and Accreditation Scheme, ARONAH has developed an independent framework informed by contemporary principles of health practitioner regulation.

Every element of the framework is designed around one primary objective: protecting the public.
How the framework works
Independent regulation in practice

Six connected functions support professional accountability, transparent decision-making and public confidence.

01
Independent regulation

ARONAH operates as a regulatory body rather than a professional membership organisation, maintaining separation between professional advocacy and regulatory decision-making.

02
Independent governance

Governance structures support objective, transparent decisions and help manage actual, perceived and potential conflicts of interest.

03
Professional standards

Registration, education, competency, CPD, conduct and professional practice standards establish clear minimum expectations for practitioners.

04
Regulatory independence

ARONAH works with professional associations, education providers, government and stakeholders while retaining independent regulatory judgement.

05
Complaints & conduct

Complaints and professional conduct processes support public protection, procedural fairness and proportionate regulatory responses.

06
Public register

The public register enables consumers and other stakeholders to verify registration status and strengthens transparency and accountability.

Public protection
Together, these elements support public confidence in naturopathy and Western herbal medicine and strengthen the foundations for nationally consistent regulation in Australia.
