Subject: Supporting safe integration of naturopathy into Australia’s health system

I am a constituent of your electorate and a member of the Australian Register of Naturopaths and Herbalists (ARONAH). I am writing in support of the application to include naturopathy and Western herbal medicine in the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS).
The 2025 independent research report, Assuring Safe and Integrated Health Care: A Review of the Risks, Benefits, and Regulatory Requirements for the Professions of Naturopathy and Western Herbal Medicine, examined how these professions operate within Australia’s healthcare landscape and how regulation could better support safe integration, interprofessional collaboration, and consumer confidence.
The report found that naturopaths are already functioning as part of primary healthcare for many Australians, yet operate outside a nationally consistent regulatory framework. This limits effective collaboration with other regulated health professionals and creates gaps in accountability and system integration.
Statutory registration would:
- Align naturopathy with existing national health regulatory systems
- Improve clarity around education standards
- Support safer referral pathways and interprofessional cooperation
- Strengthen public trust and transparency
ARONAH and the Australian Naturopathic Council have now formally submitted an application to government. I respectfully ask that you support its consideration by health ministers.
